Frequently asked questions about insurance and billing
What insurance does Newsom Eye accept?
We accept a wide range of medical and vision plans — Medicare, Medicaid and commercial plans included. The full list of accepted plans is on this page. We update and expand it regularly.
Do you accept Medicare?
Yes. We accept Medicare, Railroad Medicare and AARP Medicare Advantage, and our surgery centers are certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services with Medicare-deemed status.
Should I check my benefits before booking?
Yes. Insurance coverage can vary from plan to plan even within the same carrier, so it is worth verifying your benefits with your insurance provider before scheduling. Our team can help you work through it.
What is the difference between my medical and vision plan?
Medical plans generally cover eye disease — cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, retinal problems. Vision plans generally cover routine exams, glasses and contact lenses. A single visit can touch both, which is why we check each.
Is a refraction or contact lens fitting covered?
Depending on your plan, additional fees may apply for a contact lens fitting or for the refraction used to write a glasses prescription. We will tell you before the service, not after.
What if my plan is not on the list?
Call us. We continually update and expand the plans we accept, and the list on this page may not reflect a very recent addition. We will also tell you honestly if we are out of network so you can plan.
Who can help me understand my coverage?
Our experienced team can answer questions about coverage and walk you through your benefits. Call the office nearest you and ask for the billing team.
What if I cannot afford my procedure?
Ask us about CareCredit patient financing, and, for surgery-center charges, about our financial hardship policies. There are usually more options than people expect.
