What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, often referred to simply as eyelid surgery, removes excess skin, muscle and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids.
On the upper lid it opens up a heavy, hooded appearance and can restore vision that overhanging skin was blocking. On the lower lid it addresses the bags and puffiness that make people look tired regardless of how much they have slept.
It is performed by surgeons with specialized oculoplastic training, which matters: this is surgery around the eye, not just on the face.

What is blepharoplasty?

A visual field test performed with your eyelids in their natural position, and again with the skin taped up, shows objectively how much vision the skin is blocking. That test is also what insurers use.
What is the difference between blepharoplasty and ptosis repair?
Blepharoplasty removes excess skin, muscle and fat. Ptosis repair tightens the muscle that lifts the eyelid. If your lid margin itself sits low, skin removal alone will not fix it — and some patients need both.
Where are the incisions?
Upper lid incisions are placed in the natural crease, where the resulting scar is very difficult to see once healed. Lower lid approaches vary depending on what is being addressed.
How long is recovery?
Bruising and swelling are expected for one to two weeks. Most patients are presentable within two weeks, with the final contour settling over the following weeks.
Will it make me look different?
The goal is a rested version of your own face, not a changed one. Removing the heaviness usually reads as looking less tired rather than looking operated on.
Where is the surgery performed?
