Mission Statement:
Our Mission is to provide rising high school seniors and college students the experience to internship in a national leading ophthalmology practice. We envision an opportunity where students achieve personal, academic, and professional success.
Purpose:
The Newsom Family Foundation Goal is to provide a unique experience in a multidisciplinary setting with the intent of mentoring a knowledgeable student capable of engaging in eye care.
Three Program Sessions:
Newsom Eye offers the following educational opportunities for rising high school seniors and college students.
- Sebring Session: June 9th- July 3rd
- Tampa Session: June 9th- July 3rd
- Gainesville Session: July 14th- August 8th
Program Length: Four Weeks
Number of Positions Available in Program: Four
Program Starting Dates: June and July
Typical Weekly Hours: 32-40 hours
Requirements for Completion:
The Intern is required to:
- Successfully complete attendance of 30 hours/week or more; Arrive on time at 8:00am
- Proper dress (navy blue scrubs and tennis/running shoes) and clean appearance
- Completed HIPAA Training
- Sign Business Associate Agreement
- Be attentive, respectful, and helpful while in clinic or observing surgery
- Carry a notepad, keep notes, and review study guides, and please ask questions.
Program Stipend:
$1000 for each Session; will be prorated for missed hours/days.
Pre-approved time off can be arranged for planned vacations or events.
Completion Certificate: Yes
Other Opportunities:

- One Day Visit in Surgery
- One Week Visit in Clinic and Surgery
