Comprehensive care, not just prescriptions
Our optometrists provide complete eye examinations, glasses and contact lens prescriptions, and the ongoing management of ocular disease including glaucoma and dry eye syndrome.
They also provide pre-operative and post-operative care for cataract and LASIK patients, working alongside our surgeons so your care does not fragment between appointments.
Several fit specialty contact lenses, including scleral lenses for patients with dry eye or irregular corneas — the cases standard soft lenses cannot serve.

Who leads the optical departments?
Our optical departments are led by a team of optometric physicians (ODs) committed to delivering comprehensive eye care services tailored to your individual needs.
What is the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist?
An optometrist (OD) provides primary eye care — exams, prescriptions, contact lens fittings and management of many eye conditions. An ophthalmologist (MD or DO) is a physician and surgeon who also performs eye surgery. At Newsom Eye they work as one team.
Will I see the same doctor each visit?
Schedules rotate across our locations. If you would like to see a particular doctor, say so when booking and we will do our best to arrange it.
Can an optometrist manage my eye disease?
Yes. Our optometrists manage ocular disease including glaucoma and dry eye, and provide pre-operative and post-operative care for cataract and LASIK patients.
Who fits specialty contact lenses?
Several of our optometrists fit specialty lenses, including scleral lenses for patients with dry eye or irregular corneas.
Do the opticians work with the doctors?
Yes, and that is the advantage of an optical inside a full ophthalmology practice. The person fitting your glasses can see what your doctor found.
How do I book with a specific doctor?
Call the office nearest you and ask. Our team will tell you which days that doctor is at which location.
