July is Eye Protection Month

July is eye protection month. Playing sports, working, and other activities can put your eyes are risk, especially if you are around a lot of moving parts. The proper use of eye protection can prevent thousands of eye injuries each year. Two major reasons workers may experience eye injuries on the job are:


1. Not wearing eye protection
2. Not wearing the proper eye protection for the job


To shield eyes from scrapes and/or chemical exposure, there are a few things you can do to lower your risk of injury. You can wear goggles, face shields & helmets.


Activities that put your eyes at risk include sports with a ball, puck, bat, stick or racquet. Surprisingly baseball and basketball cause the most eye injuries, followed by water sports and racquet sports. To prevent or reduce the severity of eye injuries, it is suggested you wear 3-mm polycarbonate lenses, which are the thinnest and lightest lenses available. These lenses are available in plain and prescription forms.
